Individual Work
As Cambodia is in its fast-paced development period, the city of Phnom Penh becomes vulnerable in terms of its high rise development. To accommodate the intent that spaces on the ground level can become shared green space among the community, it is a necessity that residents begin to live vertically in buildings rather than one individual house in a plot of land.
The Interwoven Terrace Garden being a part of Project for Phnom Penh series, strives to improve the lifestyles of residents by creating pockets of green space that surrounds the whole project. On top of that, this mixed-use development introduces the local commercial podium that aims to bring daily convenience to a one elevator click away from their homes. Although pockets of greenery surround the development, a central courtyard is embedded in the heart of the plot making connection to landscape available to residents from each corner of the buildings.

Guided by the concept of bringing city residents closer to nature everyday, the project kickstarts by bringing people’s homes vertically, allowing landscape to spread both vertically and horizontally. Although this mixed-use development stands its grounds in terms of maximizing the return on investment, the project keeps in consideration that users are to live in a condition that sufficient daylighting as well as ventilation can pass through. This plays a role in assisting the placement of each towers.
Amidst the cluster of commercial podium and high rise buildings, one is to find green gathering spaces scatter across the plot. This significantly improves the social engagement that creates a community-centric design that emphasizes on uniting only residents from the development, but also those from neighborhood community as well.
